Lightning strikes Cali.

Over 1000 fires were started in California due to lightning. Decades of fire suppression have left the forests unhealthy and dense with underbrush. A forest fire returns the nutrients to the soil, making it readily available to the trees. The local Bishop Pines in Mendo are a fire dependent species, requiring fire for germination. Fire is good, fire is natural. Fire is organic. People don't like fires because they lose their "stuff." Bummer... An additional 3 days of thunderstorms are predicted this weekend.

As of 6/26
Total Fires: 1,090
Acres: 165,091
Contained Fires: 241
Personnel Committed: 12,512

Fire Engines: 933
Hand Crews: 288
Dozers: 262
Water Tenders: 303
Helicopters: 68
Air Tankers: 14

Below are photographs of the Flynn Creek/Navarro Fire in Mendocino, burnt 1500+ acres thus far.
